This wedding was epic in every sense of the word. A festival. In a field. With a rave. Jack Russell ring bearers. And a Series 1 Landrover. Cool. As.

The field, was https://www.cotswoldfieldofdreams.com/ owned by the bride and groom, an idyllic meadow in the heart of the Cotswolds, landscapes a la Laurie Lee, which they rent out for events and weddings – but now, it was their turn. And boy did they do it properly!

I knew Luci and Rich owned the field, but nothing prepared me for the size and breadth of the views – not to mention the setup. There was a tipi village, a gargantuan marquee, festival flags, fire pits, hay bales, a ceremony tipi covered in fresh flowers, a games area, massive barn and a dugout fire pit to cook the lamb on – as I arrived the night before to check it out (only to see Luci and Rich running around like loons putting the final touches on everything) I couldn’t wait to get started.

The day started for me at 10am at Rich’s tipi – oodles of natural light and rolling golden and green fields in the background, a pastoral (and photographer’s) dream. There was, however, a slight issue with a missing groomsman, although no one seemed that surprised or upset by this – apparently standard practice for said missing person. I left the chaps joking around and popped over to Luci’s parents’ house where she and her bridesmaids (Hayley, Alice and Fran) were getting ready. Luci’s mum was cooking up a proper breakfast before everyone departed for the ceremony. Yes! Girls do eat on their wedding day! I also met Darcey and Jolly, Luci’s beloved Jack Russell terriers who also had a significant part to play.

Luci arrived at the ceremony in her Pa’s Series 1 Landrover, which had had a makeover with white sheepskin rugs and plenty of bunting. It looked awesome, as did the girls who all bundled out to a massive cheer. The ceremony began, Richard’s Dad playing a few songs, Darcey and Jolly as ring bearers and a friend as celebrant. I can’t quite put into words the love that filled the air amongst everyone there, the midday sun and the blue skies making the scenery around all the more unforgettable. We captured some stunning couples shots in an adjacent barley field, with the sun setting in the background. Probably one of my favourite settings yet, such a vivid landscape.

The speeches were hilarious – and I mean properly hilarious – involving a poem from Luci’s mum, a song from Rich’s dad and more than a few best man jokes about Rich’s hair. Luci also said a few words. I also must mention the excellent Fairvue band who played on and off throughout the day and were rather excellent eye candy for guests. Not that I was looking. Obvs.

Luci and Rich had catered for their 150 evening guests who arrived to pizzas from the Wild Oven Company and enjoyed a free bar all night. Seriously, it was better than Glastonbury. At 11 everyone decamped for ‘Beats in the Barn’, DJ’d by Luci’s brother. I really, really wanted to get a few shots here as the rehearsal the night before sounded brilliant, however, a combination of having spent 12 hours on my feet, standing on a chair trying to take photographs (and not succumb to a beat!) saw me fall spectacularly to the ground. Something told me it was time to call it a day, and I left, completely amazed and slightly overwhelmed at the amazingness of it all, to the sound of dance music reverberating around the valley.
