Couple portraits with bride and groom at Northbrook Park

This wedding was a whopper! 170 guests from all over the world at NorthBrook Park, which meant I got to draft my talented friend Sean Weekly in to help shoot the day.

So the awesomeness of Annabel and Alex. Usually I’d want to start with the bride but it’s hard to write this blog without first mentioning Alex’s huge smile. And who wouldn’t grin like that marrying a gal like Annabel? Not only is she unbelievably gorgeous she is hilarious and buckets of fun. Whilst Sean shot the groomsmen I was with Annabel and her nine bridesmaids. Yes NINE! Who had all been given (very coolly) a free range with their dresses, in that they had to be floor length, gold with a little (or a lot) of sparkle. And that SO worked. What a crew! It was a bit like a film set, all these lovely ladies in white robes with hair and make-up artists fussing over them, the leading lady Annabel at the centre of it all.

A beautiful moment that I felt honoured to witness was the blessing of the wedding veil by Annabel’s aunty. Traditionally, this is something I imagine that would have been done by the mother-of-the-bride, but sadly Annabel’s mum had passed away. As any girl on her wedding day would want to, Annabel’s mum was remembered throughout the day with a special chair in the ceremony room in her memory and lots of mentions throughout the speeches. The veil blessing was incredibly special to document and I was reminded that although each wedding can follow a similar structure they still are so unique. It was nice to remember the importance of the day amidst all the trappings that we can so often get wrapped up in.

The couple chose to make their own vows, Alex spoke his beautifully and from memory and when it came to Annabel’s turn, she whipped out her phone for a reminder, telling her guests that she’d been rather busy planning the day itself and she hadn’t been able to memorise them. You need only take one look at her to forgive her, but it did generate lots of laughter throughout the ceremony service.

But for me, the real stand out for this wedding, was the dancing. A & A danced their way into the wedding breakfast, they literally got down on the dance floor to Stay by Neyo with much whooping and cheering. And then their first dance, no slo-mo mooching but again, a full on dance off to Every Little Step by Bobby Brown. Awesome. There was a LOT of laughter – and of course, that Alex larger-than-life grin.

Shout out to Annabel’s gran who did the beautiful button holes and to Bud’s Floristry for the bridal bouquets and decorative flowers around Northbrook.  And the one and only DJ Obi Smalls who had the perfect customers in Alex and Annabel.

Congratulations to you both, and a heartfelt thank you for having me along.
